International Symposium on Broomcorn Millet
Chuncheon, Korea
February 25-27, 2015
The
2nd international symposium
on Broomcorn millet organized by the Department of Bio/Health Technology, Kangwon National
University will
be held in Chuncheon, South
Korea in
February 25 to 27, 2015.
Broomcorn
millet is one of the long history crops cultivated in the world, it is not only
tolerant to drought and infertile conditions, but also adapt to many adverse
environments. Broomcorn millet is rich in nutrients than most of the important
cereal crops and has great potential for further development. In order to
promote the development of the broomcorn millet in the world, to strengthen the
exchanges and cooperation in scientific research among the major production
countries, to increase socio-economic development and to improve people’s
living standards, scientists from China, Russia, Ukraine, Slovenia, Japan, Korea
and other countries decided to establish the International
Association on Broomcorn Millet
as a
platform for the international cooperation and exchange could be established on
broomcorn millet in 2012 and
decided to convene
the 2nd International Symposium
on Broomcorn Millet(2nd ISBM) in South Korea in 2015.
On
behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to invite scientists working in
broomcorn millet from all over the world to take part in the 2nd International Symposium
on Broomcorn Millet(2nd ISBM) and join the
International Association on Broomcorn Millet, so that we could work together
to enhance the researches and production of broomcorn millet in the world.
The
symposium will include academic exchange and products display from the world and other activities among the participants as well. Representatives
from USA, Russia, China, Ukraine, Slovenia, India, Korea, Japan,
Lao PDR, Thailand, Nepal, Sweden and other countries and regions will attend this symposium,
the estimated scale will be about 50 persons.
Scientists
and entrepreneurs from all over the world will work together to exchange the
latest academic and industrial development about broomcorn millet, and discuss
the future trends of broomcorn millet development to promote the researches and
production of broomcorn millet in the world.
The symposium will be held in Chuncheon, Korea,
where is the capital city of Gangwon Province where is a
principle production area of small grains like broomcorn millet. Chuncheon city is located in the 90km east from Seoul.
II.

The symposium papers will cover the following subjects.

(4) Production Physiology and Farming Practices
(5) Biotechnology
(6) Nutrition and Health
(7) Food Processing
(8) Food Chemistry
(9) Product Trade
(10) Others

Working language
Official
language of the symposium is English.
3.
Paper presentation
All the participants will be encouraged to submit one
paper to the symposium. The papers will be presented in the following two ways.
(1) Keynote speakers
The speakers will be arranged to deliver a 20-minute
presentation about international research and development of broomcorn millet
and then have ten minutes for question answering and discussion.
(2) Paper presentations
The speakers will be arranged to deliver a 15-minute presentation
about their papers and then have five minutes for question answering.

Poster and products exhibition
The participants are welcome to
poster and display broomcorn millet products, books and research achievements during the symposium.

Post-conference tour
There are 2
routes which participants could choose in the following.
(1)
One-day tour in Gangwon Province
A one-day tour in Gangwon province is
arranged on February 28, 2015 to visit local historical sites and
tourism attractions including 2018 Winter Olympic Venue. The
cost is US$80.00., including dining, ticket and transportation.
(2)
Two-day study tour in Seoul
A two-day study tour is arranged to visit the
capital city, Seoul from February 28
to March 1, 2015. During the tour you will enjoy the
beautiful scenery of Han River and downtown in
Seoul In the meantime, the tour will also be arranged to
visit the local historical sites and tourism attractions.
The participants will leave the hotel at 8:00 a.m. on March 28
and stay in Seoul one more night. The cost is US$200.00
including accommodation, dining, ticket and transportation. The reservation is
needed before the symposium.
III.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
1.
Registration
Please complete the registration form, with full
payment, and return to the symposium secretariat before December
31, 2014. The registration form can be posted, faxed or
e-mailed to the symposium secretariat. Registrations will not be completely
effective until the symposium secretariat receives your payment.
2.
Cancellation
Participants are required to send a written request for
cancellation to the symposium secretariat.
3.
Payment
All the payments will be made in US$ in
the 2nd International Symposium on Broomcorn
Millet.
